When my oldest child was an infant, I would call my mother crying, "She won't sleep, she won't eat, she won't stop crying!" My mother would always say, "Tomorrow will be different." Then I'd call her elated, "She slept through the night!! She finally ate those nasty strained peas!" ... and my mother would always say, "tomorrow will be different." She was always right.
I've thought about my mother's wisdom a lot over the years, because I think it applies much more broadly than infant care. Family, work, school, friends, (diets), ... all these things throw us new challenges and new joys on a regular basis and it would be naive to think, "Ah, yes, it's all good from here on out!"
I took 10 years off from teaching and walked back into a classroom that I didn't recognize ( we didn't even email with parents when I quit, much less have a computer on every desk!) I spent three years teaching middle school, and I worked hard to master all the new things coming at me: middle school culture and expectations, collaborative learning, digital learning, SBG, etc.
This year I'll be moving to a high school - new subject & new student demographics will mean very new challenges. My objectives with this blog are to remind myself on the rough days that there are good days on the horizon, to remind myself on the good days that I shouldn't get too comfortable, and to remind myself that - no matter what - tomorrow will be different.
